No Board Exams for Class 5 and 8 in Punjab This Year
The Punjab government has announced that students of Class 5 and Class 8 will not be required to appear for board examinations this academic year. The decision has been made to reduce stress on young learners and focus on holistic education rather than high-stakes testing, especially in light of ongoing challenges in the education sector.
Officials explained that continuous assessment and in-class evaluations will replace formal board exams. Teachers will be responsible for assessing students’ performance throughout the year, taking into account their understanding, participation, and progress in various subjects. This approach aims to encourage learning without the pressure of one-time exams, promoting creativity, critical thinking, and practical knowledge among students.
The government also stressed that this policy would help address disparities in educational resources across urban and rural areas, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have a fair chance to succeed. Parents and educators have largely welcomed the move, calling it a positive step toward modernizing the education system in Punjab.
This temporary exemption from board exams is part of broader educational reforms that focus on improving teaching quality, student well-being, and equitable learning opportunities across the province.
