NCHD and Hazara University Join Hands to Boost Literacy Through “Each One Teaches One” Initiative
Abbottabad – In a landmark collaboration aimed at improving literacy rates, the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and Hazara University have launched the “Each One Teaches One” initiative. The program seeks to empower communities by encouraging literate individuals to teach those who are unable to read or write, fostering a culture of learning and skill development across the region.
Under the initiative, university students, volunteers, and community members will participate in structured teaching sessions targeting children, youth, and adults who have missed out on formal education. NCHD officials stated that the program not only focuses on basic literacy but also incorporates life skills, numeracy, and digital awareness to equip learners for broader societal participation.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Vice Chancellor of Hazara University emphasized the role of higher education institutions in driving social change. “This initiative reflects our commitment to transforming communities by leveraging knowledge and volunteerism. Literacy is the foundation of empowerment, and every individual who learns can make a ripple effect in society,” he said.
The program will also include monitoring and evaluation components to track progress, ensure quality instruction, and provide feedback for continuous improvement. Local stakeholders have welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the importance of community involvement and the potential to reduce educational disparities in rural and marginalized areas.
By combining the resources of NCHD with the academic expertise of Hazara University, the “Each One Teaches One” initiative aims to create sustainable literacy programs that can serve as a model for similar efforts nationwide.
