ISLAMABAD web desk…. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has fixed the annual tuition fee for MBBS and BDS programmes at Rs. 1.8 million, with a 5% increase allowed for the 2025 session and future hikes tied to inflation from 2026 onwards.
The decision follows recommendations from the Committee on Medical Education Reforms, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Institutions that have already charged more than the approved fee must refund or adjust the excess amount in future sessions. Colleges seeking higher feesβup to a maximum of Rs. 2.5 millionβmust submit detailed financial justifications to PMDC for approval.
The council has warned that failure to comply will lead to legal consequences. Aggrieved parties can lodge complaints via the PMDC portal.
Dr. Riaz Janjua, Secretary General of the Pakistan Association of Private Medical and Dental Institutions (PAMI), criticised the move, saying it jeopardises the financial viability of many colleges. He stressed that institutions in urban areas face higher operational costs compared to those in rural settings.
Janjua also urged for PAMIβs representation in the fee evaluation committee to ensure fairness, a suggestion reportedly accepted during the meeting.
