ISLAMABAD web desk…The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has raised serious concerns over the worsening financial crisis in public sector universities, calling for immediate government intervention.<\/p>\n
During an online Executive Council meeting chaired by President Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, the association stressed the need for a significant rise in both federal and provincial education budgets.<\/p>\n
The council urged the prime minister, finance minister, higher education minister, and provincial chief ministers to prioritise funding for universities in upcoming budgets<\/p>\n
FAPUASA also called for the swift creation of provincial Higher Education Co.mmissions (HECs) in KP and Balochistan, and demanded financial and administrative independence for all provincial HECs.<\/p>\n
According to HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, the higher education sector now faces a Rs. 60.1 billion shortfall, up from Rs. 17.7 billion in 2018-19. He noted that the HEC\u2019s current requirement is Rs. 125 billion, but only Rs. 65 billion was allocated.<\/p>\n
Major universities including Quaid-i-Azam University, IIUI, and Federal Urdu University are struggling to pay salaries and pensions. A request for Rs. 2.5 billion in additional funds submitted in January remains pending.<\/p>\n
FAPUASA also welcomed the federal cabinet\u2019s recent decision to restore tax rebates for teachers and called on the FBR to issue the official notification without delay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
