PM Shehbaz Launches Maiden Polio Drive of 2025, Vows to Rid Country of Crippling Disease
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Pakistan’s first polio vaccination campaign of 2025, reiterating the government’s commitment to eradicating the disease from the country. The launch event, held at a major healthcare facility, emphasized nationwide coordination and community engagement to ensure maximum coverage.
Speaking at the ceremony, PM Shehbaz highlighted the progress made in previous years and urged parents to vaccinate their children, emphasizing that polio remains a threat to Pakistan’s younger population. “Every child counts, and no effort will be spared to protect them from this crippling disease,” he said.
Health officials noted that this drive will cover millions of children under five, particularly in high-risk areas where previous cases have been reported. Mobile vaccination teams, community volunteers, and local authorities will work together to reach remote and underserved communities.
Experts underscored the importance of public cooperation, dispelling myths about the vaccine and encouraging families to participate actively. The government also plans to conduct follow-up campaigns to maintain herd immunity and prevent outbreaks.
