Quetta: ‘Natural Resources Protection a Priority,’ Says Balochistan Official

Quetta – Protecting and sustainably managing Balochistan’s vast natural resources has been declared a top priority by provincial authorities, as the government outlines plans to balance economic development with environmental conservation. The announcement was made during a press briefing by a senior official from the Balochistan Department of Environment, emphasizing the need to safeguard forests, water sources, and mineral wealth for future generations.

According to the official, the province faces significant challenges due to illegal logging, unregulated mining, and over-extraction of water resources, which have contributed to environmental degradation and economic losses. “Our natural resources are not just economic assets—they are essential for the health, livelihoods, and sustainability of our communities,” the official said. Measures to curb exploitation include stricter monitoring, penalties for illegal activities, and community-based conservation programs.

The provincial government is also collaborating with national and international environmental organizations to implement awareness campaigns, promote eco-friendly practices, and encourage sustainable development models. Special focus is being placed on educating local communities about the importance of conservation and the long-term benefits of responsible resource management.

Experts and civil society representatives have welcomed the initiative, noting that Balochistan’s natural wealth, including forests, rivers, and mineral reserves, has the potential to drive economic growth if managed sustainably. They stressed that without protective measures, the province could face irreversible ecological damage, affecting agriculture, water availability, and climate resilience.

Authorities further highlighted upcoming policy measures, including stricter licensing for mining operations, reforestation projects, and water conservation programs, aimed at creating a balance between development needs and environmental preservation. Officials urged citizens, industries, and local leaders to actively participate in protecting Balochistan’s unique ecological heritage.
