Pakistan, Italy Vow Cooperation on Labour Rights
Pakistan and Italy have pledged to strengthen cooperation on labour rights and workers’ welfare, officials announced following a bilateral meeting between government representatives and Italian diplomats. The agreement aims to improve working conditions, ensure compliance with international labour standards, and promote social justice for employees in both countries.
During the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of protecting workers’ rights, preventing exploitation, and creating safe and fair workplaces. Pakistani officials highlighted ongoing reforms in labour laws and efforts to enhance occupational safety, while Italian representatives shared best practices from their labour market and regulatory framework.
The collaboration will include knowledge exchange, capacity-building programs, and joint initiatives to address challenges such as informal employment, child labour, and workplace discrimination. Officials also discussed mechanisms for monitoring and enforcing labour standards to ensure meaningful outcomes.
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, Pakistan’s Labour Minister stated, “This cooperation underscores our commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights and promoting dignity at work. By learning from international partners, we can strengthen our labour policies for the benefit of all citizens.” Italian representatives reaffirmed their support for Pakistan’s efforts and expressed interest in continued collaboration in areas such as vocational training and social protection.
Analysts note that this partnership could improve labour conditions, attract foreign investment, and boost Pakistan’s international image as a country committed to human and workers’ rights.
