NDMA Warns Climate Change Threats to Escalate in Pakistan
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning about the escalating threats posed by climate change in Pakistan, emphasizing the urgent need for mitigation and adaptation strategies. Officials highlighted that rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, and increased frequency of extreme weather events are likely to impact agriculture, water resources, and human health.
NDMA spokespersons stressed that urban flooding, heatwaves, and landslides could become more frequent, posing risks to vulnerable communities across the country. The authority urged provincial governments, local authorities, and citizens to implement preparedness measures, including early warning systems, disaster-resilient infrastructure, and community awareness campaigns.
Experts warned that without immediate action, climate-related hazards could exacerbate existing social and economic challenges, including food insecurity, water scarcity, and health crises. NDMA also called for collaboration with international agencies to strengthen climate resilience, promote renewable energy, and adopt sustainable environmental practices.
Authorities emphasized that proactive measures, policy reforms, and public participation are essential to reduce the potential human and economic toll of climate change in Pakistan.
