UAE Announces New Transport Policy for Students

Abu Dhabi – The United Arab Emirates has unveiled a new national transport policy aimed at ensuring safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly travel for students across the country.
The policy, announced by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), introduces a series of measures designed to improve school transport services while keeping student safety as the top priority.
Under the new guidelines, all school buses will be required to install advanced safety features including GPS tracking, speed limiters, and automated attendance systems to monitor when students board and leave the vehicle. Drivers will also undergo regular training and certification to meet strict safety standards.
A key element of the policy is sustainability. Authorities have committed to gradually shifting the school transport fleet toward eco-friendly vehicles, with electric and hybrid buses to be phased in over the coming years. This step is part of the UAE’s broader vision to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy solutions.
Parents will also benefit from a new mobile application that allows real-time tracking of buses, sending notifications about pick-up and drop-off times. Officials believe this will enhance transparency and provide peace of mind to families.
Commenting on the announcement, a ministry spokesperson said:
“Students are our most valuable asset, and their safety is non-negotiable. This policy not only ensures secure and reliable transport but also aligns with the UAE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.”
Education experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that reliable transport plays a major role in improving school attendance and reducing stress for both parents and children.
The new regulations will be implemented in phases, beginning with federal schools later this year, before being rolled out to private institutions nationwide.
