VPN Ban Poses Threat to IT Industry’s Survival: P@SHA

The Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) has warned that the government’s proposed ban on Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) could seriously threaten the survival of the country’s IT industry. Officials stressed that VPNs are essential for secure business operations, remote work, and international collaborations.

According to P@SHA, IT companies rely heavily on VPNs to communicate with global clients, access cloud-based services, and protect sensitive data. A ban could disrupt business continuity, reduce competitiveness, and lead to financial losses for software exporters and tech startups.

Industry leaders emphasized that while regulatory oversight is important, a blanket ban could stifle innovation and hinder Pakistan’s growth as a digital economy. They urged policymakers to engage with stakeholders and develop solutions that balance cybersecurity concerns with the operational needs of IT firms.

Experts also warned that restricting VPN usage could push businesses to relocate operations abroad or seek alternative means to maintain security and connectivity, potentially impacting jobs and economic growth in the tech sector. P@SHA called for immediate dialogue with the government to find a sustainable approach that ensures both security and business viability.
